Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao vs. David Diaz

Filipinos always have a close-knit family which includes distant cousins and even the "barkada's" (gang of friends) family. Even when one migrates to another country, other Filipinos would somehow end up being your distant relative.

That's how all Filipinos felt like when Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao fought former WBC lightweight king David Diaz, last June 28 in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada. Every Filipino around the world considered him as "family" and watched the championship fight. My friend said that there was a huge decline of jeepneys plying the usual Manila routes because they had to watch the fight. Huge TV screens were set up in malls, gymnasiums, and sports complexes around the Philippines so that Filipinos could watch it live. Another happy thing is that it was for free! (For us here, it was "PayPerView").

A lot of Filipinos (and yours truly) are still in a happy-proud state when we think of Manny Pacquiao. We are so proud of him! He made history by being the first Asian to hold 4 belt championships in four different weight categories: former IBF world super bantamweight champion and WBC flyweight champion, current super flyweight champion and the new lightweight champion of the world!

Below is a youtube clip from ABS-CBN's TV Patrol News report of Manny Pacquiao's victory against David Diaz in Las Vegas, NV U.S.A. on June 28, 2008.
