Grilled Steak

May 10

We went to El Cerrito to buy groceries. We bought more barbecue sauces in Lucky supermarket, then bought the rest of our food at Ranch market. Pangga planned to grill steaks upon arriving home.

Pangga marinated the steak with the Havana Garlic and Lime sauce that we bought. I made mashed potato (with sour cream, garlic, chives) and salad to complement our grilled steak. We mixed grilled mushrooms, tomatoes and onions into our salad : WOW!

Proud "Master Griller"!

After dinner, we played scrabble where Pangga tried to claim the "golden pen" from me. That's what we refer to as our trophy from winning our scrabble match. Of course, I didn't relinquish the "golden pen", I won this round again! The second time I got all seven tiles down with extra 50 points! The word was "vigours" as seen below. Whhooopppiiieeee! hehehe.

Zamboanga

May 6

I went online today and chatted with Ces, saw Raffe and talked to Ate Bing. It's been a long time since I saw her. It was good talking to her and see her kids.

Ate Bing and her daughter, Ezra who was born December 15. I asked for her birthday since she's one of my "godchild" or "kinugus" in our dialect.

Her son, Daniel born December 18.

That's Lawrence, Roderick's son (below) with Ces. He was still a baby when I was there in Zamboanga years ago. How time passes by quickly.

Barbecue & Movie

May 4

Pangga and I finally used the grill we bought and started barbecuing. We marinated pork with soy sauce, lemon/ vinegar, pepper, garlic, thyme and a dash of dill weed.

Preparing pork barbecue.

Getting the grill ready and heating the coals outside our apartment's small back porch.

Delicious Pork Kebabs!

We watched Iron Man today. I was skeptical if the movie would be good when I heard that that Robert Downey Jr. was going to perform as Tony Stark. After we saw it, all doubts vanished because Downey Jr. really played the character well. One of the best adaptations from comic book hero to silver screen.

We liked watching how Iron Man's armor was being created : the cool technology and the humorous glitches during testing. It was funny watching his assistant robot handling the fire extinguisher and waiting to douse any fire. We are so looking forward to the next one! definitely 4 stars!

Synopsis:

"From Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures comes Iron Man, an action-packed take on the tale of wealthy philanthropist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), who develops an invulnerable robotic suit to fight the throes of evil. In addition to being filthy rich, billionaire industrialist Tony Stark is also a genius inventor. When Stark is kidnapped and forced to build a diabolical weapon, he instead uses his intelligence and ingenuity to construct an indestructible suit of armor and escape his captors. Once free, Stark discovers a deadly conspiracy that could destabilize the entire globe, and dons his powerful new suit on a mission to stop the villains and save the world. Gwyneth Paltrow co-stars as his secretary, Virginia "Pepper" Potts, while Terrence Howard fills the role of Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, one of Stark's colleagues, whose military background leads him to help in the formation of the suit. Jon Favreau directs, with Marvel movie veterans Avi Arad and Kevin Feige producing." - Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide

Cliff House & Camera Obscura

April 27

"The Cliff House is a restaurant perched on the headlands on the cliffs just north of Ocean Beach on the western side of San Francisco, California. It overlooks the site of the former Sutro Baths. It was remodeled several times before the National Park Service acquired it in 1977. Today the Cliff House is preserved as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cliff_House

Ocean Beach & The Beach Chalet

April 27

"Ocean Beach is a beach that runs along the west coast of San Francisco, California, at the Pacific Ocean. It is adjacent to Golden Gate Park, the Richmond District and the Sunset District. The Great Highway runs alongside of the beach, and the Cliff House and the site of the former Sutro Baths sits at the northern end. The beach is a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and operated by the National Park Service." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Beach
_(San_Francisco)

"The water at Ocean Beach is noteworthy for its strong currents and fierce waves, which makes it popular among many serious surfers. The water is also quite cold, due to a process known as upwelling, in which frigid water from below the ocean surface rises up to replace the surface water that moves away from the beach as a result of the Coriolis effect." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_Beach

Dutch Windmill : Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Garden

April 27

"In 1903, a pair of Dutch-style windmills were built at the extreme western end of the park. These pumped water throughout the park. The north windmill has been restored to its original appearance and is adjacent to a flower garden, a gift of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. These are planted with tulip bulbs for winter display and other flowers in appropriate seasons. Murphy's Windmill in the south of the park is currently being restored." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gate_Park

The Dutch (North) Windmill was completed in 1902. Was repaired in 1980, when the adjacent tulip garden was also planted. ( The tulips bloom in February and March. )
